This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students come from the inner city, and they sometimes don’t get the same experiences as suburban schools. My school offers an Unmanned Aerial Systems course where we teach the history and physics of flight, but we would like to do more for them. Having a state-of-the-art FPV drone to make their schooling more equitable would make a huge impact for them to be able to fly. It would give them skills in an up-and-coming field that wouldn’t be able to get anywhere else. In my class, we make kites from paper, straws, and string. We make origami gliders. We also make hot air balloons from trash bags. It would be amazing for them to experience ACTUAL powered flight! They could use the drone to film their outdoor sporting events, providing a small job.
