Unlocking Potential: Supporting Students with Dyslexia Through Targeted Resources

Please help me provide my students with essential materials tailored to the unique strengths of elementary students with dyslexia. This project will empower them to thrive, embrace their potential, and build a foundation for lifelong success.

My Project

My elementary resource classroom is experiencing a growing need for books and materials to support students with dyslexia and other reading challenges. If this grant is funded, my students will gain access to high-interest books specifically designed for readers with dyslexia. These books feature larger fonts and increased spacing between letters and words, making them easier to read and comprehend. The grant would also provide specialized writing paper with highlighted lines and guided spacing, helping students write more clearly and confidently by reducing visual strain. A particularly empowering tool we hope to obtain is a C-Pen—a portable, assistive reading device that scans and reads printed text aloud as the student drags the pen across the page. This tool fosters greater independence and confidence, allowing students to access challenging texts without always needing one-on-one adult support.

Additionally, multi-sensory tools such as logic training games, magnetic tiles, and tactile liquid letters will engage students through touch, movement, and visual input—essential elements of effective instruction for learners with dyslexia.

Finger focus highlighters, color overlays, reading strips, and calming strips will provide easily transportable accommodations, supporting students in both the general education classroom and my resource room. These tools will help my students feel more successful and included in every learning environment.
