Unlocking Our Full Potential in Ms.K's Speech Room!
Help me give my students the opportunity to implement the skills they are learning and motivate them to unlock their full potential using Apple iPads as a means to communicate, reinforce behaviors, and increase motivation.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Hello & Welcome to my page! I am an elementary school speech-language therapist in Washington Heights. I am proud and lucky to work with amazing little minds from Pre-Kindergarten to 5th grade, whom receive speech and/or language intervention services to address difficulties related to articulation, phonological awareness, vocabulary, writing, reading, fluency, social skills, and the list goes on.
In my classroom, we all come from different backgrounds, speak different languages, and face different difficulties.
However, my students share one thing in common: A strong willingness to learn and overcome their speech and language difficulties through creative, engaging, and hands-on therapy.
My goal is to give my students the necessary tools and skills to unlock a world in which they can build their confidence and use their knowledge, creativity, and skills to succeed academically. I would love to provide them with an alternative means to learn, to engage and motivate them to reach their therapy and academic goals.
My Project
As a school-based SLP, my goal is to help my students effectively communicate and enable them to access the curriculum to promote academic success. My students work on a variety of goals related to the articulation of speech sounds, fluency, reading, writing, reading comprehension, vocabulary, and more. My students are sweet, loving children with a strong willingness to learn who experience a range of learning disabilities including Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, Intellectual Disability, and Speech and Language Delay.
In today's day and age, technology can unlock one's potential and provide immense growth and learning for students in the school environment.
Students in grades Pre-K through 5th will be able to use these iPads to access specific therapy apps and activities related to their therapy goals. Furthermore, these iPads will aid in engaging students and increasing motivation to complete tasks. Several evidence-based therapeutic practices offer online and tech-based programs that are more easily accessible for my students. Whether therapy sessions are conducted in the student's classroom or in my therapy room, the iPads can be accessed and used throughout the school building. I believe that student participation, motivation, and overall increased ability to effectively communicate will increase. With these iPads, students will be given the ability to become a partner in communication and continue to hit all their speech and language goals!
