Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My 9th, 10th grade ELD and International students are full of curiosity, resilience, and unique perspectives. Most are navigating a new language and culture, and for many of them, this will be their first experience with a classroom library. What makes them truly special is their eagerness to learn, adapt, and connect with literature that mirrors their own experiences. Despite challenges, they bring a wealth of diverse stories and ideas that make our classroom community rich and dynamic.
The books I am requesting—The Four Agreements and a collection of Latinx/Hispanic literature—will make a meaningful impact on my students' learning and personal growth.
The Four Agreements offers life lessons on personal integrity, self-respect, and freedom that will resonate deeply with students facing the challenges of adapting to a new language and culture. These books will provide not only a sense of identity but also a bridge to a broader understanding of the world.
The Latinx/Hispanic books will ensure that my students see themselves in the stories they read, fostering connection and pride in their heritage. These books will empower them to become more confident readers, while helping them build essential language skills.
My goal is to create a classroom library that reflects the diverse backgrounds of my students and supports their language development. These books will give them the opportunity to engage with literature that is relevant to their lives, fostering a love for reading and encouraging them to explore new ideas.
