Unlocking Literacy: Phonics Tools for Confident Readers

Help me give my students engaging manipulatives and activities that will enhance their ability to hear, recognize, and work with sounds in words, as well as connect those sounds to letters, building a strong foundation for lifelong literacy!

My Project

Kindergarteners are eager to begin their journey toward becoming confident readers, and by first grade, they are strengthening these skills to unlock the world of reading. Many students face challenges, such as gaps in letter-sound correspondence and foundational literacy skills, but they come to school each day excited to learn something new. To give them the best chance for success, I am focusing on phonemic awareness - the ability to recognize and manipulate the sounds in spoken words - and phonics, where we bring those sounds to life in written letters and words. Using the Science of Reading, a research-backed approach, I am helping students build a strong foundation for success in reading, writing, and beyond.

The true magic of learning to read happens when students hear and manipulate the sounds that letters represent, then weave them together to form words and my students are ready to create that magic!

The Science of Reading is one of the most powerful methods for teaching young learners, and I’ve seen firsthand how this magic unfolds in my classroom. By providing phonics manipulatives and games for multisensory play, decodable readers to build confidence, and letter tiles and word family activities for blending and decoding, these skills are reinforced in a fun, engaging, and systematic way. This explicit instruction lays the foundation for a lifetime of reading. Your support will have a lasting impact on my students' reading success and help future generations of young learners discover the magic within themselves.
