This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Science is best learned through hands-on experience, but due to budget cuts and ongoing delays in school ordering, I’m facing major challenges in securing the materials my students need for their labs. Instead of waiting until it’s too late, I’m working ahead to fund future lab shortages—starting with the Microarray Lab, an essential part of our PLTW Medical Intervention curriculum.

Microarrays are used in real-world genetics research to analyze gene expression patterns and identify markers for diseases like cancer.

Through this lab, my students will step into the role of biomedical scientists, comparing healthy and diseased genes to understand how researchers develop targeted treatments. This hands-on experience will help them build critical thinking skills, lab proficiency, and a deeper understanding of biotechnology—all of which are essential for their future in STEM fields.

Without proper funding, students may miss out on this invaluable opportunity, which is why I’m reaching out for support. Your donation will ensure my students have access to the materials they need to explore cutting-edge genetics and prepare for careers in healthcare and research. Every contribution, big or small, helps keep hands-on science alive in my classroom.
