This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
It may sound crazy, but there is no versatile and engaging early math tool I love more than numbered carpet squares! Using play-based numeration activities, my young students with developmental delay and autism will be able to access numbers in a fun and hands-on way in the resource setting.
With this set of squares from 1-30, my students will be able to practice number identification, ordering, comparison, and patterns with games like the floor is lava, detective, musical squares, and more!
My favorite part about being a special education teacher is working to find new (and at times, unorthodox) ways to help my students get to that “aha” moment. Any help you can give to get these carpet squares into my classroom could bring any number of students one step closer to their “aha.”
