Unlocking College Access: A Laptop to Bridge the Digital Divide

Help me give my students the opportunity to access college-level courses through CUNY College Now by providing a dedicated laptop in our counseling space.

My Project

Many of my students are bright, driven, and deeply committed to their academic futures. They are enrolled in rigorous courses like AP Research, AP Pre-Calculus, and several are eager to take part in CUNY College Now classes to get a head start on earning college credits.

However, many of these students come from under-resourced families and face significant challenges in accessing the tools needed to sustain success in these courses—especially reliable technology.

In my role as a school counselor, I work with students in a shared office space, and having a dedicated laptop in my cubicle would allow me to directly support their enrollment, progress tracking, and access to online college-level content when their home resources fall short.

This laptop will serve as a lifeline for students who otherwise wouldn't be able to complete assignments or join virtual lectures for their CUNY College Now courses. It will also allow me to offer immediate, one-on-one support—from navigating platforms like CUNYfirst and Blackboard, to reviewing college assignments, essays, and registration forms with them in real time.

- Provide a dedicated workspace where students can complete online college coursework during free periods or after school.

- Ensure equitable access to post-secondary opportunities, especially for students facing financial or technological barriers.

- Offer targeted academic advising and real-time support to keep students enrolled and succeeding in dual-enrollment programs.

Despite facing economic hardships, our scholars continue to soar academically by balancing demanding AP courses, extracurricular commitments, and now, college classes. Their resilience, ambition, and dedication are unmatched. They don’t just dream of college; they are working for it every day. With your help, we can make sure nothing stands in their way.

Thank you for believing in our students and investing in their futures
