Thanks to your support, we have been able to create a space where these young women can share their experiences, overcome challenges, and form lifelong friendships.\r\n\r\nThe impact of your donation has been profound. Our first workshop required the girls to make bracelets for each other based on preference. No one was aware of who they were going to make the bracelet for. Students were then require to honorably tie the barcelet on the wrist of their peer. This fostered new friendship and set a precedent for the development of intimacy and trust amongst students. \r\n\r\nWe are particularly proud of how the program has fostered collaboration and understanding beyond gender lines. In fact, we saw boys join our afterschool sessions, which speaks to the broader impact of the club and the importance of creating inclusive spaces for all young people. Their involvement reflects the universal need for connection, understanding, and mutual support—values that are at the heart of Sisterhood in the City.","fullyFundedDate":1730224101830,"projectUrl":"project/sisterhood-in-the-city/8863578/","projectTitle":"Sisterhood in the City","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Seaforth","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9796683_orig.jpg?crop=1284,1284,x0,y81&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1729870526751","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9796683"},{"teacherId":9825638,"projectId":8918680,"letterContent":"Thank you allowing me to provide my students with the necessary tools to promote prompt learning instruction. While we will certainly put these to good use, I want to address the context of this donation.\r\n\r\nGoogle is an over 2 trillion dollar company that generates enormous profits exclusively for the benefit of shareholders, and contributes resources like these as a fractional gesture of goodwill. Why we live in a world where Google is valued at over 2 trillion dollars, and educators have to post the equivalent of a go fund me to have their students necessary supplies? How do we actually assign value in our society? What is more meaningful, public education or search engines and tech products? \r\n\r\nEarlier this year, Google spent $70 billion in a stock buyback, a tactic that creates no real world value, but only further enriches those who own Google stock. For context, that is nearly double the $40 billion annual budget of the NYC DOE (our district), by far the largest public school district in the country. \r\n\r\nWhy do I need to write a letter \"thanking\" google for having the generosity to spend a infinitesimal fraction of its profits on students at a public school? \r\n\r\nWhat if instead, those at Google wrote a personal letter thanking our students for the determination, kindness, and excellence they show every day at their public school?","fullyFundedDate":1730047171447,"projectUrl":"project/social-emotional-counseling-room-supplie/8863704/","projectTitle":"Social Emotional Counseling Room Supplies","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. McAlonan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5581028_orig.jpg?crop=2118,2118,x15,y433&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1729880135777","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5581028"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_131300","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":60,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":64,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":48,"percentWhite":6,"percentIndigenous":1,"percentLatinx":38,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 10","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Weighted Average","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":null},"inStateSupporters":33.3,"schoolId":131300,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Community High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Community High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/new-york-state-department-education/community-high-school/131300"}
