Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My classroom is home to two classes of 20 fifth graders, each with a big heart filled with curiosity and an enthusiastic drive to learn more. I know this because I taught this group of students during the 2016-2017 school year when they were third graders! My students are in a fifth-grade Math and Science classroom at a Title I school in the Washington Heights neighborhood of upper NYC. Ninety-four percent of students receive free or reduced-price lunch, and 30% are English Language Learners. Like most children, my students love having hands-on experiences and I want ALL of my students to be able to have access to their own personal learning needs!
Inspiring my students to learn with a hands-on, engaging environment is the mission in the classroom.
At the end of the year, I want my students to say, "This was the best year in math, ever!" My students deserve the best math education I can give them and I desire to be able to provide a mathematical education that will encourage my students to reach for the stars!
My Project
The materials and supplies I am requesting for my students will be beneficial to build important comprehension of mathematical concepts that are needed to become fluent in mathematics.
The fluency kit will be used to help support small group intervention groups for those students who need just a little bit more of a push to understanding math fluency.
In 10 minutes a day, my students will be able to use various activities to strengthen their math fluency. By donating to our project, you will help empower and increase math computations and problem-solving skills. This will allow them to associate their math fluency to real-world everyday situations and increase their academic achievement.
