Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students need awesome math manipulatives to be successful this school year. Our school is located in a low socioeconomic area of the city, but that doesn't determine the hopes and goals our students have for themselves. Eighty percent or more of our students receive free or reduced price lunch, with parents that have two jobs to support their families. We have a variety of ethnic groups and home languages. Our students are eager to learn. They come to school every day with great attitudes despite what happens at home and they want to go to college and be successful. Statistics show that our students are most at risk of failure and dropping out. Don't let these great kids have academic success pass them by. Students that come from very diverse homes need to build their self-confidence to be successful in life. Teaching kids in poverty implies the need to express how successful they are being during their learning. We need to provide positive feedback all the time.

My Project

Math is one of the subjects that can create a poor concept of their achievement in school. Giving them the opportunity to be successful will not only improve their academics now but it will improve their success in general.

Learning in a Spanish Dual Immersion class can be challenging but having manipulatives like the place value disks or the Montessori 1-100 boards will allow my kids to demonstrate how proficient they are understanding place value.

Adding and subtraction is a basic skill in life, using LEGO bricks to help students visualize the patterns of numbers will be very helpful and very engaging at the same time.

Building with blocks might seem as a simple task but the cognitive effects that it has on a child's learning are huge. It helps develop spatial and motor skills as well as hand-eye coordination. They will also develop the social and language skills that my students need to develop in Spanish, it will also improve their skills in general.

We will be conducting some science and STEM activities. My students will witness a butterfly's and plant's life cycle.
