This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The newly adopted Common Core Standards bring about a challenge for my students who often come into my classroom lacking basic math skills. My focus is to make them feel like they can rise to meet that challenge head-on. With adequate supplies, I feel I can help them meet this challenge.
By simple glance, my students appear to be as fun-loving as any other ten year old you might meet.
Many, though, are faced with challenges within their neighborhood or home life which make it difficult to focus or be prepared for school. While they're in my care I focus on creating a safe, nurturing classroom environment where students can learn from one another. Each student makes a unique contribution to our learning environment. They work hard to figure out something on their own and explain it to their classmates to share their knowledge, while practicing valuable communication skills.
My Project
Having access to math resources, such as manipulatives and games, would help my students unleash their inner mathematician. Not only would students be able to work collaboratively they can also gain confidence in their abilities to find solutions to mathematical problems. These manipulatives can encourage times where struggling students have that AHA moment and come closer to the mastery of math concepts.
All donations to my classroom will provide resources to my current students and for students for many years to come.
My students will become confident and unleash their inner mathematician in a fun, engaging manner.
