This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The dancers of TCHS are a phenomenal group of 10th-12th graders who train daily to hone their skills. These learners are physically expressive, socially conscious, and creative individuals. As a community, we view education and art-making as tools for empowerment, self-reflection, and social change. My students represent a diverse group of learners from the Trenton community.
The students who are members of the TCHS Dance Troupe, our school's version of the dance team, are athletes, scholars, and artists.
For my dancers, a uniform appearance is highly valued as an element that distinguishes them as a team. In their eyes, unity begins with uniformity when presenting their team to the community, competitors, or judges. When we attend an event outside of our school my students feel easily insecure when they do not have the means to look as organized in team apparel compared to other schools. I would like to focus my effort on meeting my dancers' need for uniform dance attire.
My dancers need uniform dance t-shirts when they go and perform in the community. We plan to wear the t-shirts when attending performances, events, and competitions. Having these apparel items would build teamwork, create uniformity in the team and combat the shame and embarrassment of not having the proper attire.
