My Students

Students in my area of the Chicago Public Schools, come mostly from low-socioeconomic backgrounds. Because of this, they are faced with adversity outside of the school system, but inside, they are proving that they can be productive members of society. They love to learn, show engagement in their learning and a desire to reach the high expectations that I set for them.

Of course, meeting high expectations brings about the need to highly motivate.

My students are highly motivated by choice seating, higher level nonfiction and fiction texts, and being able to collaborate with their peers. We share pride in our hard work and together we plan grow as a healthy school family.

My Project

Each day my students work through six center choices. Three centers are completed in math and three centers are completed in reading. We have currently exhausted all of our folders in our classroom.

My students have daily work folders, which are becoming torn and ragged.

On Monday’s we fill their folders with all of the materials that they will need for the week. Example activities include: vocabulary words, spelling words, timed math assessments, worksheets, upcoming projects, writing samples, etc. This helps my students stay organized. Using daily/ weekly folders keeps my students informed of upcoming assignments and allows them to take control of their learning.
