My Students

I am teaching in Valparaiso, Indiana. I am working with an amazing group of 5th graders. My students are excited about learning and problem-solving.

I want my students to learn to love reading by finding the deeper meanings behind the titles.

My students participate in reading chapter books while breaking down what they read with deeper meaning. Students will work together to read the chapters.

I know that with this project my students will gain knowledge, find connections with the world, and problem-solve solutions for the problems in the text.

My Project

I will be reading aloud the book, "Refugee" for my class. My students will be reading the title, "A Long Walk to Water" as an independent read. These two books will create an understanding of issues in the world and the struggles children their age are dealing with around the world.

My goal is to get students to think deeper about concerns of the world and to understand civil rights of children their age.

I believe that students need to think about the concerns of the world and think of ideas to improve the situation for the future. Help them explore and problem solve.
