My Students
My students are generally, highly-motivated and very often musically talented. Many of them are deeply interested in music. Some have outside experiences in performing music. Some have never played an instrument before, but do well in the music classroom.
Many of my students love to sing.
They participate in a school chorus which performs during a winter and a spring concert. Some of the younger students participate in a grade-wide musical review. They connect to the community, by performing for their families, students and staff.
My Project
Students will learn to play a different instrument; the ukulele,
I have, over the years, taught many of my students to play folk and rock guitar.
They have practiced singing and accompanied themselves on the guitar. They were able to learn quickly by the use of tablature or diagrams of the instrument. They found that they acquired results quickly and successfully.
I would like to increase this program, by teaching some of them an additional instrument, the ukulele. I think that it would add diversity and contrast to the guitar program. I would teach them the ukulele, also by the use of tablature or diagrams in order to accompany their singing.
