Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach a wonderful, intelligent group of students who are always hungry for new knowledge. However, sometimes it is challenging to teach US history to them due to the fact that the majority of them are immigrants and/or first generation Americans. Hence US history is not culturally relevant and does not spark their interest.
On the other hand, they love to read graphic novels, so it would be great to teach my students about free speech and Supreme Court cases using a class set of the graphic novel, "Free Speech Handbook- A Practical Framework for Understanding our Free Speech Protections".
I believe this book will be engaging and spark student interest in the content regarding free speech. Only when they are informed about free speech will they be able to use their rights to the full extent.
