The seventh graders that enter my room are students that are ready to read. Located in a suburb outside of a large midwestern city, our district focuses heavily on the importance of being lifelong learners and readers. My students beg for more reading time and book talks so they can add books to their Read Next lists. My students start each class period with time to read their personal choice novels.
My students come from a variety of backgrounds, but they all have one thing in common: they are book-loving, avid readers, and enthusiastic learners.
That being said, my classroom library needs to continuously grow to help meet the growing needs of the students in my classroom. I have a wide range of readers, so I'd love a library that can not only meet those needs but also be high interest to keep them engaged. I'm looking forward to adding more titles of high interest and new reads to my classroom bookshelves.
My Project
The novels on this list will give my students the option to read and learn about different cultures while also giving some the option to read about stories similar to their own.
Diversity in our classroom books is a necessity.
My students would love the chance to continue their reading life with nonfiction book options to expand their understanding of peers and people they will encounter in the community and the world. As they continue to grow as readers and people, they should be given the opportunity to understand the past, present, and future of the world and people around them.
