My Project

While nurturing academic growth is vitally important for our students, of equal importance is their social-emotional well-being. Fostering strong social-emotional skills in the elementary years is essential for overall development and success. As a literacy teacher, I'm committed to supporting learners in developing these essential skills through the enjoyment and discussion of books. This will require the addition of a social-emotional collection of books from which to support students through social-emotional issues.

A comprehensive collection of books that cover a wide array of social-emotional themes would create opportunities for meaningful discussions that promote empathy, resilience, kindness, diversity and inclusion.

Through engaging with characters and situations that reflect real-life challenges, young students can develop a deeper understanding of themselves and others, equipping them with the skills and attitudes needed to navigate complex feelings or situations.

I'm excited about the potential impact this collection could have in supporting elementary aged students with big feelings and emotional regulation. This collection could also serve other teachers needing resources to support social-emotional development in their classrooms, allowing for countless students to benefit. When students possess the tools to address their emotional needs, they are better equipped to engage in instruction.
