Understanding Hardships of the Past...

My students need a set of Graveyard Girl (25) to aid in their study of the city of Memphis during the yellow fever epidemic, giving them insight into the trials and tribulations of past generations.

My Students

My students choose to be a part of this historical fiction book club, eager to learn of new places and historical events in American history with the anticipation of traveling to those place at the close of the year pending available funding. They do have requirements that have to be met, yet they strive and work to meet these requirements all year long.

I teach at a Title I school where 92% of our students receive free/reduced meals and very few of them travel outside the city limits, much less out of state.

Most of my book club members are minorities and/or come from immigrant families that speak limited English at home.

My Project

This class set will help aid in our study of Memphis and its past tragedies. The students will gain an understanding of epidemics and the effect it can have on, not only on people, but entire cities.

Your donation will help increase student learning outside of textbooks, as they can only teach so much.

This book is one of 7 books that will be used to plan an extension activity in which a trip will be planned at the end of the 2018-19 school year. This trip will encompass most, if not all of the areas read about during the school year, giving the students firsthand knowledge of the history/geography of the region.
