Understanding Cultural Diversity is What's Needed in the Community
Help me give my students a culturally diverse library. The books are focusing on helping children to learn and respect others who are culturally different. It is important that children understand their role and responsibility within the community.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are culturally diverse that attends a title 1 school. These students are in need of additional reading materials that would be beneficial to understanding the different cultures within their environment/community. These books would also help the students to identify their responsibility as an active individual within the community.
Learning about their identity and who they are plays an important role in reinforcing how comfortable they are in a culturally diverse environment.
This is a key for helping to develop our younger cohorts within the community.
My Project
These books will help to educate my students about different cultures within their community and also teach them how to be socially responsible. These texts will be used as our mentor texts in the areas of social emotional and culturally diverse studies. These texts will be used to engage students in deeper conversations around the topic of race. Scholars will be able to see how they are similar or different to the characters in the texts.
Students learning how to respect differences and acceptances through reading exposure is a way to introduce students to different worlds.
