Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Have you ever asked a 3rd grade student if they've been to a different state or country? I have, and I know I want to expand my students' understanding of the world around them!
I teach at a Title I school where our students come from various neighborhood environments.
I have had the privilege of teaching 40 energetic students who have a thirst for learning. Some students in our school come with background knowledge of the world around them. Some come lacking an understanding of the world around them.
My Project
Creating an environment where my students can work together to help gain understanding of concepts is a goal in my classroom. My students need Social Studies Resource Boxes, Our Government Book Series, and Grab & Play Social Studies Games to help them master the concepts presented. The two different Social Studies Resource Boxes cover the different standards that my students are required to learn throughout the school year. These boxes include many hands-on elements that will strengthen my students' understanding of the different social studies concepts. The government books will be added into our community unit and our civics unit to help further understanding of how our government in the United States is set up. Finally, the Grab and Play Social Studies Set will be an additional resource to help students understand civics and social studies concepts throughout the year.
Each of these Resource Boxes will add additional materials to help my students master different civics concepts.
The replicas and reading materials will guide my students through the lesson and the concepts. The books offer pictures and descriptions that will help bring real-life concepts to life for my 3rd grade students. By implementing each of these items, the goal will be to help bring social studies to life for my students, opening doors of understanding and growth with these concepts.
