Understanding a Grocery Budget

Help me give my students ledger books to track their 'grocery budget' of $10 per day.

My Project

Finances is a tricky topic for students to learn. There are a lot of components to understand while, at the same time, not having and actual income.

Our 8th graders will be given a $10 per day grocery budget to window shop online for their grocery needs.

My goal is to help them understand the cost of food as a necessity of life, and to manage their money so that they can either save for a 'want' item, or get more groceries. The ledger book will help them track their spending as they make a slide deck presentation about the food they are wanting to purchase along with prices. This will teach them about purchasing when there are sales, and that sometimes we cannot always get the food we want (junk food etc) and can only get the foods we need (fruits, veggies, etc).
