My Project

Deborah D. Douglas wrote, “Uncover a piece of history at every turn, and get inspired to join the ongoing fight for change." My vision for my students is that as they turn each and every page of this thought-provoking and inspiring book, they will become lifelong Upstanders: Fighting Hate for Good. As they read and become familiar with the tough personal deliberations that young people like themselves made involving the decision to either resist, do nothing or collaborate during wartime, their own choices and responsibilities will become tangibly alive in regard to their own lives. The transformative experience of reading the book, along with their related subsequent reflections on it, will further the ultimate objective of all of us joining the fight against hate and complacency in the face of evil.
