Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
A classroom laptop is a crucial tool that will allow my students to see the world through the eyes of others and develop a deep understanding of compassion. With access to this laptop, my students can engage with a wide range of interactive resources, including virtual simulations, documentaries, and stories that highlight diverse perspectives and life experiences. By exploring these materials, students will gain insight into the challenges and emotions faced by people from different backgrounds, helping them to build empathy and understanding.
Beyond just learning about compassion, my students will use this laptop to take action and make a difference in the lives of those they’ve learned about.
They will collaborate on service projects, create awareness campaigns, and connect with community organizations to support causes that resonate with them. Whether it’s writing letters to isolated seniors, raising funds for a charity, or advocating for social justice, the laptop will serve as a hub for these compassionate initiatives.
To measure success, I will assess my students’ understanding of compassion through reflective journals, group discussions, and project outcomes. I will look for evidence of empathy in their writing, the depth of their discussions, and their commitment to the service projects they undertake. Success will be measured by the students’ ability to articulate what compassion means, how they’ve applied it, and the positive impact they’ve made on others. This funding opportunity will empower my students to not only learn about compassion but also to practice it in meaningful, real-world ways.
