My students need a Motic digital microscope and and one Plants and Animals Microscope Slide set.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"Theodore Roszak once said, "Nature composes some of her loveliest poems for the microscope and the telescope." Who doesn't remember their first peek into the microscopic world? Once in focus, cells and tissues came to life! Squiggly flagellum danced across the slide as plump amoebas blobbed by!
We are a Title 1, Program Improvement school that serves a rather low socio-economic area.
The majority of my students have never visited a science museum or a nature center. Their exposure to the scientific world is limited to the experiences they have at school. As their teacher, it is my responsibility to enrich these experiences as often as possible.
My Project
Give children the right tools and they can become scientists, exploring and learning about the microscopic world around them. Learning increases as children are given the opportunity to explore their world firsthand and opening their eyes to the unseen world of cells, tissues, and an amazing variety of bacterium may just be the vehicle that carries them to a career in science.
Currently, my students rely on the diagrams and photos in their science texts as they learn about cellular structures. Using a digital microscope, they will be able to see inside the cells of real plant and animal tissues. Students will begin their exploration of cells with prepared slides of common tissue and cell samples. From there, students will be creating their own specimen slides. How exciting to see your own cells through the lens of a digital microscope!
This digital microscope will bring the beauty, wonder, and excitement of the microscopic world to life in our 5th grade classrooms.
Who knows? The next world famous microbiologist may just be sitting in Room 24.
