My Students
Our students are Hispanic and African-American. They are limited in resources, with over 90% of them qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch.
We try our best to create an environment that is safe and open while giving them meaningful experiences to enhance their lives.
Many of our students are also teen parents or dealing with identity issues. Due to those factors and lack of resources, many of them are on their own with the responsibility to find shelter and food.
Our students find ways to get creative with limited supplies. They are thankful for new things and look forward to being exposed to new things. Our students come to school for stability and the chance to forget about their circumstances while working to provide a better life for themselves.
My projects are about giving my students the best experiences while they are in school and providing them with what they need to be the best students possible socially, emotionally, physically, and academically.
My Project
Basic things that help cover your basic needs can make you feel (and smell) like a million dollars. These basic supplies are sometimes taken for granted. However, many of my students lack consistent access to those basic things. This can cause insecurity, increase absenteeism, lack of focus, and potential bullying This project is focused on making sure they have some of the basic things to support their positive growth and development. Students will receive hygiene kits that will include deodorant, socks, lotion, underwear, and mouthwash. The kits are designed to maintain privacy and respect.
