Help me give my students resources to continue their learning through the summer. In these undefined times and no guarantee of summer camps, help me help my students not fall behind academically.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
This is my 28th year of teacher and probably my most challenging. As I watch the news each day, my biggest question is, "When will schools be open again?" Although I can not answer that question, I work hard each day to continue to teach my students. I worked diligently to make sure that each one of my students had a Chrome book so distance learning can occur. These Chrome Books will have to be collected but I still want learning to happen.
More than 1/2 my class is African American children who receive free breakfast and lunch.
They live in a poverty stricken area. They are not exposed to the world beyond the city limits. They know too much about crime, hunger and desperation. Our school is trying to educate while showing empathy towards others. It is a challenge on a daily basis to keep our students
My Project
Since our schools are closed, I thought it would be a great idea to make my 25 second grade students an at home learning kit. The kit would contain an activity book, flashcards, fiction story books and a snack. I will pack up a bag for each student and personally deliver them to their doorsteps. The kids would be thrilled and I am hoping my efforts would boost their will to learn and be successful.
Currently, my students have Chromebooks and are learning virtually.
Theses Chromebooks will be collected in June. Since there will be no summer school or probably summer camps, I was thinking a great activity packet would help them to continue learning. Also, a lot of my parents will be working during the summer so the learning package would be of great help to some.
I really do not want parents to become overwhelmed with assisting on educating their children, so this package would be something that could be done independently as well.
