Uncommon Senses

My students need unique sensory materials such as kinetic sand and play foam for our sensory center, a microscope to explore items beyond our senses, and an upright vacuum and other cleaning tools.

My Students

Have you ever watched a child become fascinated with a puddle of water created by rain from the previous day? Watched them step, jump, create, manipulate, and explore? Seen the curiosity of how the world works inspired by a simple puddle? The world around them is a learning environment.

Welcome to Pre-K!

Come on in! We ask that you be respectful to those around you as well as the materials you play with. Language isn't an issue here, and we're confident you'll pick it up quickly. We learn through play and exploration so you're required to bring your curiosity and imagination. Have fun! Our kids are young, ambitious, and curious, but there's darkness lurking about that's much too serious. Pre-K is a time to explore and play, to imagine and create until the end of the day. But the trouble that's looming seems to be blooming. Academic rigor! Academic rigor! They're telling us to grow up much, much quicker. They want to prepare us to be college ready. We want to go to college, but at a pace that's steady. Our parents can't help us out of the troubles that are lurking; it's not their fault! They're too busy working! It's up to you to help us keep our childhood we're about to lose, you wonderful people, the people of DonorsChoose!

My Project

Children are curious about everything they can explore using their senses. If you watch a newborn baby, they are learning and exploring using their five sense. The simple input we take for granted is the first teacher that an infant learns from as it begins to explore the world. We deny our children from learning about their curiosity and what intrigues them because someone believes that binding them to a desk in a classroom in order to pass a test is considered learning and is what best prepares them for the future. A sensory table will allow my students to discover and explore their senses at their finger tips. Children are naturally curious and creative. These materials will allow them to use their senses to guide their discovery and learning. The kinetic sand and play foam will be the unique and uncommon medium for students to explore their sense. The microscope will allow them to see things at a micro level. Sand can track everywhere. The vacuum and broom will keep our class clean.

Our students love the sensory table.

Due to sanitary reasons, we can't mix the sand with water for our students to mold. Kinetic sand and playfoam will allow them to explore and create with sand without having it mixed with water. Most of our students haven't even been to the beach to build with sand. The molding medium will help bring that experience into the classroom! Help our students become curious investigators by allowing us to create an environment that takes on the role of a teacher.
