This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I love all of our students. Most of my students are in a Health Magnet and they work incredibly hard to balance academics and extracurricular activities.

As a Spanish teacher, they bring so much joy to my job since they are willing to learn a new language to use as a way to communicate medical services to a diverse community.

My Project

As a Spanish language teacher adjusting to distance learning due to Covid-19 has been both a great opportunity to use more technology, but also a challenge. One of the challenges that has been difficult to recreate remotely is having our daily partner dialogues in class. I've tried recreating that space, but having 28+ students unmute themselves at the same can be chaotic. Having another screen will allow me to have another screen where I can have my students break out into groups where I can monitor them simultaneously and provide them the space to practice speaking a new language in a calmer space with one or two of their peers. I believe that this will also allow my students to feel more connected with each other hence build an even stronger community of confident Spanish speakers.
