This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are very varied. They come from all socio-economic levels and ethnicities. We are an online school that prides ourselves in innovative programs to inspire creativity in students. We teach art, baking, music history all via zoom. We have been working with students for the past 20 years as a home-study charter and evolved into an online school 2 years ago. As part of our program, we ship students all of the materials they will need to conduct hands-on learning. This year, despite a very restrictive cap on funding from the state, we provided our students with individual art supplies for a full year as well as individual science lab equipment and supplies so they would be able to participate in real science experiments from home. In year's past, we provided all of the baking supplies and ingredients necessary for an innovative baking program.

Next year, we are hoping to start a ukulele program to introduce our students to playing a musical instrument and inspire their imaginations.

My Project

We are an innovative online charter school that believes in sparking the creativity and imaginations of all our students. Students who learn at home often do not have the ability to participate in hands on learning if they do not have the materials and supplies. We have worked very hard to provide our students with the learning materials they need. We have provided students with materials and ingredients and taught them how to bake international recipes. We have provided all of the materials for a full art program. We have even provided each student with a Lab Science kit and a microscope to facilitate hands on learning.

We are missing the opportunity to put a musical instrument into their hands.

Each student who participates in the ukulele program will have an instrument to use at home and receive instruction in how to play. They will also learn music theory as well as music appreciation. Students will have the opportunity to perform with their peers in Zoom recitals for their family and friends. With these ukuleles, we will be able to provided musical education for students who might not otherwise have access to this.
