My students need to have a variety of instruments to play in music class as well as chorus. This is my second Ukulele project so i will have enough for all my students.
I teach in a high poverty area and arts funding has been slowly dwindling as the state and federal government continue to cut funding to the arts and funnel money it to the next best program that will improve test scores. In all actuality, research shows that music and art related studies increase test scores and more importantly, increase students understanding of core material as well as enhancing their overall educational experience. I can't even afford the basic things in my classroom to meet all my standards so I have to get creative. Most of our funding comes from fund raisers and grants.
My Project
I need more!! My first project was funded and I need more to have enough Instruments for all my students.
Ukuleles provide a fun and exciting way to incorporate instruments in class that can be used accompany their singing.
The Ukulele is an instrument capable of making "real music." It is also a easy and inexpensive way to introduce string instruments technique to music students.
Here are just some of the many reasons why: it's inexpensive, it's portable, it can play any type of music from anywhere in the world, it sounds good, it's a solo instrument, it's an ensemble instrument, it's an ideal tool for developing the ear, it's an excellent way to learn harmony and theory, you can sing and strum at the same time, and of course... it's fun!
