This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students I have the joy of working with are incredibly creative and excited to learn about music and have been learning other subjects through music. From Santaquin and Payson, they are part of a public charter school which provides music for every student. Through technology, they have explored and created music with music loops. They have created their own songs with lyrics about planets and the books they are reading in class. Their love of creating and excitement of making something that they can own is incredibly special.

My Project

Knowing how to create music is a skill that brings joy to our everyday lives. Technology has become one of the most accessible methods of expression, creation, and exploration of music. Notwithstanding the benefits of technology, it will always be missing the power of creating, listening, and performing music in a live setting.

The ukulele is the perfect instrument for students to begin developing music skills.

It is a simple 4 stringed instrument that despite its simplicity can provide numerous avenues of musical expression across many styles and genres. Through the ukulele, students will explore songwriting and develop skills for performing and musicianship.
