This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Music makes me happy as a teacher. I like to incorporate music in every aspect of learning throughout the day.

My school is a small, Title I school where a lot of my students qualify for the reduced price or free lunch program.

Many students come from diverse cultural backgrounds. There are 16 different languages spoken at my school. Most are English language learners, speaking English as their second language. My Kindergarten students come to school daily eager to learn.

My Project

I just received training on how to play an ukulele. I can see how excited my students will be when I bring in the instrument. Having 5 more ukuleles will enable me to teach my students how to play the instrument in a small group. The ukulele is an affordable instrument that students can take anywhere. They can be taught at any level of abilities. They are versatile for teaching diverse styles of music. Ukulele is an instrument that students can play alone and with a large group. Learning the ukulele will also teach the students to read music, note recognition, chords and guitar tab reading. Ukulele has a pleasant sound and is a ton of fun!

Having instruments where the students can actually touch and play would bring awesome engagement and learning to our classroom.

The learning possibilities are endless with ukuleles. They will be integrated into phonemic awareness, phonics, learning names, and much more! Thank you for your consideration.
