My Project

My students love the ukulele! Our ukulele journey started last year with a Donors Choose project for 8 ukuleles, it was matched by my school to provide 8 more, just enough for students to get started playing by taking turns with a partner. I did not anticipate just how much the students would love the ukulele! The small size, easy to press strings, and simple chord positions make it accessible and engaging for all of my students in grades 4-8.

At first, taking turns with a partners worked out, but now that students have some skills and finger strength they want to keep playing for the entire class!

I love seeing how engaged they are with the songs we are learning, and how motivated students are to learn new chords so they can learn new songs. Students have made the connection between practice time and skill mastery: they understand that in order to really learn a new chord they need to spend time practicing it, which is why they want to keep the ukulele in their hands to practice for the entire class.

Adding these 8 ukuleles to our class collection will give us 24, enough to be a full class set for most of my classes. The ukulele rack will give us the extra storage we need to keep all 24 ukuleles safe and accessible. Help me keep the music and learning going by completing my classroom ukulele set!
