My Project

I have been lucky enough to obtain a classroom set of ukuleles from DonorsChoose that has enabled hundreds of students to explore on the instrument.

For the past five years we have been able to run Ukulele ensembles for grade 3-8, integrate ukuleles into classroom extension activities, and add them to concerts and assemblies.

My favorite part about ukulele is that it is an accessible instrument that naturally sounds pretty good for all musicians. We have chord clips for students who have a difficult time coordinating fingers, felt picks for students who would like a strumming option other than their hands, etc. Ukulele is a feel good instrument and a great addition and extension to the students worlds.

With these ukuelels being accessed by so many students - even respectfully they do have some wear and tear. This project will help us replace some ukuleles that are a bit tired at the moment, as well as add 5 more to our fleet which helps my bigger class sizes at the middle school level get to use them at once.

We will actually be featuring ukulele in our upcoming spring concert- the 8th grade orchestra learned " The lion sleeps tonight" to accompany our 7th grade orchestra!
