My students need colorful Diamond Head Rainbow Ukuleles, clip on tuners and some extra replacement strings in order to make a high quality sound while learning this new instrument.
My students thoroughly enjoy music class, especially when we get to play instruments! Music class is an opportunity for the students to express themselves and have fun while learning about more than just music. Musical instruments motivate my students to learn, drives their passion and assist them with creating beautiful sounds.
This year, I want my students to begin to learn how to play the ukulele, which will provide them with a new avenue for learning about music, communicating with others and solving problems.
My students come from very diverse social and economic backgrounds, which limit the experiences they receive outside of the school day. It is my goal to bring the students as much joyous learning as I can, to keep them excited about learning and about school.
My Project
My students love to play musical instruments and I would like to begin teaching the students how to play the ukulele. With a set of ukuleles, students will continue learning how to read rhythms and melody at a developmentally appropriate level. We will also continue working on our singing while accompanying our own voices for those that can handle combining those skills. Older students will work in groups to compose pieces of music and share with the rest of the class. Each year, the program will continue to grow, as the students move from grade to grade, building on their previous musical knowledge. These instruments will provide my students with a much more well-rounded musical education and continue to motivate my students' enthusiasm.
The students are incredibly motivated and driven by their current opportunities to learn to play other classroom instruments and I know the addition to the ukulele will be very successful.
With the addition of ukuleles in our classroom, students will be provided with new avenues for understanding rhythmic concepts, have more opportunities to learn how to track music and will gain real life applications to accompanying their own singing. These instruments will enhance the students' problem solving skills and self direction. Having a set of classroom ukuleles will continue to keep my students excited about learning music.
