Uke Can Make a Difference!

My students need 10 more ukuleles in order to complete a full class set. Although they have learned to share our 22 instruments it's hard to wait your turn!

My Students

My students come from vary diverse backgrounds, family structures and experiences. Many are just beginning their musical studies, while some have been at it a long time. The common thread is their enthusiasm for music, and their love of creating music together. I like to give them options when choosing repertoire, and their engagement in the class is fueled in a large part by feeling like a part of the process of planning our performances. Music is a big part of my student's lives, and the ability to choose how they want to participate makes music class more engaging for all students.

My Project

My students recieved 22 ukuleles last year through the generous support of Donors Choose. Unfortunately our classes sometimes have 32 students, and it's hard for our kiddos to be patient while they wait their turn to play.

Ukulele is a great way to teach students note reading, rhythm and chord theory.

It's also a great way to learn to sing and play songs, which is what students are likely to encounter at church or in social situations. The more we connect music education to our students lives, the more relevant it becomes.

Students in second through fifth grade will receive instruction on the ukulele, which is a very accessible instrument even for young children. A full class set will make instruction more productive and rewarding.
