My students need ukuleles so that we will incorporate more music into our school day. We are a group who loves to sing not only in English but also Spanish!
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Bienvenidos a la aula 24! We are an energetic, determined and creative group of students at Empower Charter School. We are a Dual-Immersion school and our class time consists of 50% of in Spanish and 50% in English. Most of the students in my classroom qualify for free lunch and come to our school with lack of access to resources. Despite of the difficulties that face my students outside of school, they come ready to work hard every single day.
Even though some my students face situations one can only imagine, the love these students have for school is inspiring for me as an educator. This group of students come into class full of life and ready to learn day after day.
This drives me to continue to find ways to fuel this love for learning. As well as continuing to create a safe and loving space for my students.
My Project
The set of ukeleles will allow me to bring more music into my teaching. I see the positive impact singing has on memorization of difficult concepts as well as building classroom community. I know bringing in some ukeleles into it will boost engagement and get the students even more excited about learning.
By learning just a few chords students will be able to play a wide variety of songs.
Students will be motivated to write their own lyrics incorporating concepts from science, social studies, math and language arts. I know that having these instruments will motivate my students in their musical journey.
