My Students

We are a small, rural community with hard-working students that need assistance with acquiring resources. Elementary music is provided for every K-6 student in our district, which is a brand new piece of our school year!

Our K-5 students are excited to come to class each time and are constantly asking, "When can we play instruments?" Our current inventory was salvaged from past classrooms, last used over fifteen years ago, and our school is working hard to update it to fit our current needs.

To help start up our new elementary music program, we are asking for your help! These students deserve the same enriching opportunities as those in other parts of our state or country. We are asking for you to help build our inventory of instruments to get these students developing music independence and to make music fun.

The music room is a unique place for collaboration and where we can achieve great things together. It is my goal to inspire the passion of making music as a community, and what better time than now! These students deserve the best!

My Project

All of our students want to play the ukulele. We have about four remaining ukuleles in poor condition, and students come in asking nearly every day if they are going to be playing them. Due to class sizes, 34 students don't get a lot of playing time when there are four instruments.

Ukulele is a versatile tool for classroom music and can be used at all levels of instruction.

As the teacher of K-12 music classes, I am fortunate to be able to work with nearly every student in our district through elementary music, band, choir, and music appreciation. With my position and these programs being fairly new, we are looking for investment into materials that can support our vibrant music curriculum. Ukulele can aid instruction of composing, arranging, instrumental and vocal performing, music literacy, history, and much more.

Students exposed to ukulele will be engaged learners with more investment and ownership over their studies. This project will directly benefit the 285 students currently enrolled in music courses on a daily or weekly basis. It has the power to reach a total of about 390 in extracurricular or exploratory activities in the future – for example, a ukulele club, or using ukulele in other classrooms for cross-curricular activities (science and sound is a topic that we explored this year with 1st grade). The possibilities are endless!
