My Project
Our last unit of my 8th graders middle school career is dystopian fiction and the kids are beyond excited. During this unit, we'll explore the components of a dystopian society but also those of a utopian society. We'll make comparisons to the world today and analyze various dystopian societies that exist today.
Through our class novel, we'll work together so the students can see how the setting and carefully chosen dialogue and events work together to create a veil of perfection in a world of chaos.
My students hand-picked the book Uglies by Scott Westerfeld and I want to be able to honor that request. I mean, it's not often that a classroom is in agreement about a book they want to read. So many of my students are reading dystopian novels on their own time and I'd like to be able to work with them through this genre, as well as through this book.
