I teach 4th grade in a low income school, and kids are on 100% free and reduced lunch program. I use project based learning as the main approach to keeping the kids interested and involved in learning. We are a public school.

We use older equipment and slow computers but we are trying to be a part of projects all around the world. Kids are learning Chinese form their project partners in Taiwan and learning Kenyan from the kids in Kenya. My students are very excited about connecting with the world and this allows me to take advantage of that energy to work on their reading, writing, and speaking skills.

For a new relationship with two schools, one in in Uganda and one in Kenya, we would like two digital cameras, one for each of our two designated kid teams - the Ugandan Team and the Kenyan Team. Having two digital cameras for our Kenyan and our Uganda classroom Teams will be a common technology connection for the kids to use and share information about their learning and their respective cultures. Video would be especially effective for the kids to hear and see each other in their schools. We will post videos to Teachertube and to Schooltube because the African schools do not have the means to display videos on the internet.

Your donation will help us jump forward in learning and at the same time will help two very poor schools in Uganda and Kenya become more a part of the world community of learners. My students will experience the feeling of contributing to another culture while at the same time learning all about the culture. We intend to find out what classroom materials are needed in the African schools and have fundraisers to help get those supplies. The digital cameras will help us tell our story. I think this will be an amazing project unlike any other we have done.
