My Project

I teach Game Programming in Unity and help run a FIRST robotics team 1781, the Electric Eagles, at Lindblom Math and Science Academy. Putting those together we have an exciting STEM idea to get the programming students to use Unity Game Engine to create a robot game designed to be used by elementary school students to learn how to program. Our goal is attainable because we are going to use an existing Unity program built for FIRST robotics and, with the assistance of its developer, use it as a base to design a series of exercises designed for elementary students, where they write programs that make a robot move to achieve a goal. We have 24 laptops donated by a corporation that would work perfectly to run the Unity Game Engine. All we need is a battery and a hard drive for each laptop.

With a little bit of funding, we can get the laptops running Unity and start developing the game.

Having a real-world objective of a program that will be used by other students is the best way to motivate my students to be creative and persevere to finish their objectives. It is almost as good as an internship at a real game development company.

By leveraging our existing donations and connections to FIRST, with your donation, we can make a significant impact on our students' learning, motivation, and preparation for their future careers in STEM as computer developers.
