Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students I serve are all in General Education classes and come to me for reading, writing, math and/or social/emotional/behavioral support. I have around 25-30 students I serve at a K-8 school. My students are in 11 different classrooms ranging from Kindergarten to 8th grade.
My students are all special in their own way. I love the different age level groups I teach throughout the day, because they are all at different stages in their school careers. All of them are good at some things, but all of us together are amazing at everything. This means that alone we can do some things, but together we bring all of our greatness to the table and can accomplish anything.
My Project
These headphones would make a world of a difference in my Resource Room. You will be helping up to 30 students, in grades kinder to 8th grade, spanning over 16 classrooms at our school.
Our students come to the Resource Room for extra intervention help in the areas of reading, writing, math, and/or social/emotional/behavior.
They would be able to use these headphones for specific reading recall lessons. Where they first read a story with a teacher. Then, throughout the week, they listen to the story on their own and practice reading it to themselves. At the end of the week, they read the story with a teacher again to see if they have improved their reading rate!
With this, they also come to the Resource Room for a quiet place to take tests and assessments, where they are given all the time they need to show what they know. Headphones would help with testing by using the text to speech feature on the computer. We want to be able to accurately test a students knowledge and not have them get hung up on fluency or words they do not know.
