Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My second grade inner city school students use the Radius machines that were funded by a Donors Choose proposal a few years ago. However, my student's needs have changed since the request was fulfilled. My students now need to have mathematical Radius assistance. My students also need math centers to engage all learners in my second grade, ESL (ENL), and special education classroom.
Reading is improving with the assistance of the Radius Machines. Now, the students need the help of the Radius Math concept cards to improve their higher thinking skills when solving math problems. I know that my students are capable of great things when it comes to math. These children are very bright, they just require many different ways to learn a concept. I have students in my classroom who are on target for second grade skills and many others who are a year or more behind grade level. How can I make up this disparity in one year? With thoughtful planning and the correct resources it could happen!
If my students had access to the Radius cards as one of their weekly math centers they would learn needed skills efficiently and quickly. If they had access to the wrap around math centers I am sure they could close the achievement gap that exists in my classroom.
