My Students

I teach 12th grade English. My students are on the brink of going out and doing great things in this world. They are kind and smart and funny. They are filled with compassion and curiosity for what comes next in their worlds.

My students come from different cultures, different countries, different worlds.

Putting high interest, academic novels for varied reading groups into the hands of my students will engage and encourage my students to grow, to lead and to share literature and ideas with their peers.

My Project

"The Art of Holding On and Letting Go" and "American Road Trip" are two Young Adult novels that I am hoping to pilot in my 12th grade English classes.

I am attempting to put new, high interest, academic novels into the hands of my young scholars.

My students will connect to the characters and themes in both novels which will allow us to have academic discussions - which will then allow my students to think and write and grow as young scholars.

A highlight of this project will be a visit, to my classroom, by author of "The Art of Holding on Letting Go," Ms. Lenz. This will be an extraordinary, one-of-a- kind classroom experience. They will get to continue our classroom discussions and ask questions with the author.
