Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am an elementary Resource Spanish teacher. I teach from a cart and serve over 1,200 kids. Next school year, my students and I will be getting a classroom to call home. I teach a diverse group of energetic and curious learners. As a Spanish teacher, I want to be a bridge that brings together language, literature, and culture in the classroom, where language cannot be taught without culture. My students will benefit from a storage bench - a safe, warm, designated area to sit and read while being exposed to a multicultural environment.
A reading area will give students a special place in the room to encourage independent reading, and will motivate my students to read in two languages.
Research shows that reading is vital when learning a language. Books can help students build a larger vocabulary while increasing familiarity and comprehension. Your donations will help us bring bilingual books to our Spanish classroom, so my learners can continue learning the language and the culture in a fun and engaging way. Gracias for your support!
