This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I will be teaching seventh grade this year! For the first time, I will be trying a Reader's Workshop model, and I really want to have a circle rug for them to sit on while in a small group. Having rugs will allow the students to feel more at home when they are reading, so that they will want to keep reading!
Seventh-grade is a wonderful time to read.
With your help, I will be able to make a cozy nook for pleasure reading. Research shows that kids who enjoy reading are more empathic and do better in school.
Thanks to prior donations, I am well on my way to having a robust classroom library of high-interest titles!
My Project
I successfully fund-raised for high-interest, library bound books for the classroom. Now, I want to get kids to really dig into those books!
I would love two area rugs to make reading spaces that are cozy and inviting to seventh graders!
I am interested in trying out a program called "Reader's Workshop," in which students will have different stations: small group work with me, collaborative work, and time to read on cozy rugs!
About 65% of my students are very low-income, and most of them come from immigrant families who may not have print-rich homes. Let's make the classroom feel inviting to them! I am hoping two rugs will help!
