My Project
Our students are bright and love music, and they especially love to dance. We have been learning about the HBCUs and their band and dance team programs in music class. This topic has really piqued their interest. Many of our girls and boys in the middle school have been looking up to and teaching each other majorette dance moves and want to start a team.
These six flags and accessories will give us the tools we need to start a majorette dance team at school.
Majorette dance teams are a part of local Black history here in Chicago, as well as around the nation. I taught color guard at a high school for many years and participated when I was a student. These flags would give me the opportunity to share my knowledge and to coach middle school students to create a competitive dance team in a culturally responsive majorette style. This team will help students connect and work together with each other, as well as instill pride in the school, individuals, and community. The team will also get kids out of their seats and off a computer, outside, and exercising. Thank you for your support.
