How can we prepare students for the 21st century when we don't have the proper materials for them to build important skills? Many of my students, the graduating class of 2030, will be entering a workforce unlike anything we have experienced yet. We may not even be able to imagine some of the jobs they may grow up to have. These children are digital natives, and yet many of them don't see technology as anything but toys or personal televisions.
Students at my school face challenges both inside and outside of the classroom.
The majority of students at my school are from low-income/high poverty homes, often times with grandparents or other family members raising them. I want to give my students every opportunity to be successful and excel, but I can't do that to my best ability without the necessary tools to do so.
My Project
Through your generous donations, these Chromebooks will help my students become twenty-first century authors by allowing them to regularly publish their written works using digital tools.
I want to prepare my students for the future by teaching them that technology is a tool that has unlimited potential for learning and one that can help their voices to be heard.
This project will help me to begin building a class set of Chromebooks that my students will have access to every day. Every day, we will be able to integrate basic computer science with literacy and writing to build strong digital literacy skills early in their educational career. With consistent access to these important tools, my students can begin their journey as 21st century learners with confidence.
